Gabrielle de Villers-Wilson
Occupational Therapist

{ABOUT Gabrielle}
My name is Gabrielle de Villers-Wilson. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Science- Major in Occupational Therapy in 2011, and a Master's degree of Applied sciences in Occupational Therapy in 2012, from McGill University in Canada.
As an Occupational therapist (OT), I am professionally trained to help children, adolescents and adults to reach their optimal functional performances in the skills of daily living.
From January 2013 to August 2015, I worked full-time as an OT in a private pediatric clinic in Montreal, Canada, with children and adolescents with or without a diagnostic, presenting with a developmental delay. My role was to evaluate the child/adolescent globally, lead individual or group interventions either at the clinic, at school, or at the day-care, and work in collaboration with the parents, other professionals, and support staff helping the child/adolescent.
In addition, during that time I worked part-time as an OT consultant for a community organization for 2 years. The program I was involved in, offers activities designed to develop fine motor and global development, socialization, attention/perception, and self-body awareness for children aged 3 to 5, as well as conferences and support groups for the parents.
Since graduation, I have also completed several continuing education trainings related mainly to autism, sensory integration and other related techniques, hand-writing, intervention strategies for children aged 6-12 with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, and more.
As part of the Occupational Therapy Master's Program, I received a grant from McGill University to do a full-time clinical placement of 8 weeks in Barbados at the Psychiatric Hospital. Through this learning experience, I had the chance to familiarize myself with the health care system, exchange ideas with the multidisciplinary team, and discover the Bajan culture and traditions.
Following graduation, in December 2012, I volunteered at the Albert Cecil Graham Development Centre in the Occupational therapy department with Ms. Stephanie Corbin, OT.
I moved to Barbados in August 2015. As I have experience as a pediatric OT in Canada, my main objective is to provide comprehensive and coordinated Occupational Therapy services to children/adolescents (0-21 years old) and their families through efficient networking with other health care professionals practicing in Barbados.
I have been working full-time as an OT in the island for more than eight years. I currently practice in a collaborative setting alongside other occupational therapists, and an applied behavior analyst

Since 2019, I supervise students completing a Master of Health Science in Occupational therapy in their clinical placements. I also supervise OT graduates, and OTs changing practice specialities.
