Evaluation:
A comprehensive evaluation is recommended for children/adolescents who are referred to OT for the first time. The evaluation is fundamental to gain a better understanding of the child’s history and overall development, and to identify the causes of his/her difficulties (sensory processing, fine/gross motor, perception, cognition, behavior, environment, etc.). It is also necessary to set individual goals and make decisions about intervention services.

The evaluation process includes:
- 1 or more evaluation session(s) with the child/adolescent based on the reasons of consultation
- a evaluation report with recommendations
- a meeting with the parents to present and explain the OT evaluation results and discuss the recommendations
The assessment methods will be selected by the occupational therapist based on the reasons of consultation. The therapist may utilize various standardized/non-standardized tests, skilled observations, parent/teacher interview and questionnaire. Parents are encouraged to bring assessments and reports from health care professionals and any pertinent school documents.

Therapy sessions:

Therapy sessions are provided generally on a weekly basis or as required.
Therapy sessions will be child-centered and play-based, as play is the main occupation of children.

Based on each child profile and needs, a combination of clinical approaches (sensory integration, postural, perceptual-motor, cognitive, behavioral, extensive training of skills, motor learning, conceptual language, adaptation and compensation, etc.) can be used. These approaches will provide the child with opportunities to become engaged and independent in their daily activities when faced with challenges in the various environments (school, home and community).
As an occupational therapist, I can provide support such as; sensory integration, motor planning, core strength, fine motor and hand writing, hand eye-coordination, visual spatial processing, self-help skills, organization as well as social participation and play skills.

Team collaboration:
As an occupational therapist, one of my role is to provide evidence-based practice to the child and his family and work in close collaboration with parents, teachers, doctors, behavioural analysts, speech and language therapists, psychologists, educators, and more.
